3 Keys To Choosing the Right Environment
Recently, my wife and I were talking about what school would be the best environment for our 7-year old? (You may hear me talk about “What’s In Your Front Row?” – to me this is the same thing as your environment. It’s WHAT and WHO is close to us. It’s what we see, hear, feel and experience that shapes our world.)
There were 3 filters we used to decide what school is best for Tiger.
1. Manager
2. Method
3. Members
Let me break down all 3…
1.) WHO’S THE MANAGER? The principal, headmaster or lead teacher is a VERY important person. My wife and I have connected with various leaders of different schools to help make our choice. Our last “interview” – the leader blew us away. I felt the passion for their school mission.
2.) WHAT’S THE METHOD? What systems, processes, rules, and structures do they have in place? Will those systems bring out my son’s strengths? Will they support him in areas where he’s working to thrive? Do the methods of teaching align with our family values?
3.) WHO ARE THE MEMBERS? Of course my son will be heavily influenced by his peers – so who are they? And what about their parents? (Since…. I’m likely going to spend some time with them, I want to make sure we connect) I’m attempting to find a culture and community that makes my heart scream – oh yeah – we found home! We want to create an extended family and we want to do it consciously.
I hope this help you in selecting (and CREATING) the right environment for you, your family, your company, your friends, your church and any other environment you can help choose to play in and ultimately then help everyone to thrive.
